Aveda Transportation and Energy Services’ directors bring experience from a diverse array of disciplines including oil and gas operations, environmental protection, the law, and accounting but share common experience in both the management and governance of publicly-traded companies in the oil and gas sector.

David P. Werklund , , , Executive Chairman

An acclaimed Canadian entrepreneur, oilfield-industry leader, and dedicated philanthropist, David (Dave) P. Werklund cultivated his can-do attitude from his wholesome upbringing in rural Alberta. Growing up on a farm fostered a solid work ethic, promoted a strong foundation of core values, and nurtured an appreciation for protecting the environment. It is where Dave's business philosophy was established and is fundamental to the operations of the Werklund Family Office.

An entrepreneur at heart, Dave has a remarkable desire to "always do better" and an extraordinary knack for recognizing and seizing opportunities. His industrious career began in 1965 at Shell Canada where he worked as a Production Manager. It was here where Dave recognized and capitalized on the need to address environmental and waste management issues in the oil and gas exploration industry. He co-founded Concord Well Servicing in 1979 and grew it from a one-rig operation to the third largest well service company in Canada.

His business ventures did not stop there. In 1984, Dave founded Canadian Crude Separators with an initial investment of $50,000 in a small oilfield service company in northern Alberta. His vision for environmental stewardship drove the company to produce cutting-edge advancements and progressive technologies. By 2007, Dave had distinguished CCS Corporation as a $3.7 billion multi-faceted corporation. Today, the company employs 4,000 personnel and is internationally recognized and trusted as an industry leader providing integrated and environmentally responsible services to upstream and downstream oil and gas companies across North America.

In 2006, Dave redirected his entrepreneurial endeavours with the establishment of the Werklund Family Office, a unique private family organization preserving and promoting the legacy and values of the Werklund family, and providing tailored personal and wealth management services for individual family members.

Stefan Erasmus , , , Director

Mr. Erasmus is president of Werklund Capital Corporation, which together with other entities supports the Werklund family and its wealth management. He is also a board member of the Werklund Foundation, governing the family’s philanthropy. Prior to this role, Mr. Erasmus was Managing Director, Western Canada for global consulting firm Resources Global Professionals. A former CFO for a public independent power producer, he has also led a national electronic integration company, among other senior leadership roles. A law graduate from Manchester University, England and Bourgogne University, France, as well as a Chartered Accountant in England and Wales and Canada, Mr. Erasmus started his career with Coopers & Lybrand in England serving a client portfolio from a wide array of industries providing audit and consultative services.

Mr. Erasmus sits on a number of boards for private and public companies and is actively involved in numerous non-profit activities personally. He is also an alumnus of Calgary Inc. Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40.

Doug McCartney , , , Director

Doug McCartney is the managing partner of Burstall Winger LLP. He practices in the areas of securities and corporate finance and corporate and commercial law. He has extensive experience in corporate finance and securities transactions, including public and private share and debt financings, initial public offerings, mergers and business combinations, corporate restructurings and stock exchange listings. He also helps his clients interpret, understand and meet their reporting obligations under securities laws. In addition, Mr. McCartney is a director or officer of several public and private companies. Mr. McCartney received a Bachelor of Arts (History) from the University of Calgary in 1995 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan in 1998. He was called to the Alberta Bar in 1999. Mr. McCartney joined Burstall Winger LLP in July 2005 and he became a partner in January, 2008.

Paul Shelley , , , Director

Mr. Shelley's background is in finance and business development. After graduating with a B.Comm (Hons) from Queen's University and subsequently obtaining his CGA, he established his own business. He operated it successfully for a number of years, sold it, and then joined RBC Financial Group. He served in various capacities at RBC, including Manager of Special Loans, where he was responsible for managing the work-out of a number of accounts in excess of $100 million each. He also worked as a Centre Manager, serving a broad base of businesses in British Columbia.

After 15 years with RBC, Mr. Shelley left to join GE Capital as an executive and, for the next nine years, was responsible for the company's significant growth in Western Canada.

Since 2005, Mr. Shelley has been involved in various corporate finance, mergers, acquisitions and divestiture activities both as principal as well as a consultant.
